CORE DUTIES
Industries & Communications Department is entrusted with the responsibility of:

  1. Reforming, Restructuring, deregulation and Privatisation Programme in the Communications Sector in Nigeria; and also, Reforming and Privatization Programme of the Federal Government public enterprises in the Industries sector.
  2. In line with the Bureau’s reform initiative for the media sector, the Department has the mandate to partially commercialise government-owned media enterprises.
  3. Implementing the Federal Government’s reform for the postal sector in Nigeria, specifically the modernisation & restructuring of the nation’s postal administrator – the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST). The reforms are envisaged to align the Nigerian postal sector with global developments in information and communication technology, institutionalise commercial practices in NIPOST and deepen private sector participation in the industry.
  4. Investing capacity in the National Assembly process towards passing the Nigerian Postal Commission Bill which aims at separating the hitherto regulatory and operational functions of NIPOST by establishing the Nigerian Postal Commission, which will regulate the Postal industry in Nigeria.

ACHIEVEMENTS SO FAR MADE ON NIPOST TRANSACTION

  1. Constitution and inauguration of Project Delivery Team (PDT) and Steering Committee (SC) for the Reform of Postal Sector, Restructuring and Modernisation of Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST)
  2. Advertisement and issuance of Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for Prospective Bidders for the Transaction Advisory Services for the reform of the Postal Sector, Restructuring and Modernisation of NIPOST.
  3. Harvested and evaluated EOIs submitted by the Prospective Bidders for the Transaction Advisory Services.
  4. Issuance of Request for Proposals to the Prospective Bidders
  5. Evaluation of RFPs and selection of Transaction Adviser
  6. Appointment and award of contract to KPMG as the Transaction Adviser.
  7. Establishment of cordial relationship between the Bureau, Ministry of Communication, NIPOST and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
