The planned restructuring of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) will lead to its unbundling to have standalone business components that will project the NIPOST brand, Director General of the Bureau, Mr. Alex A. Okoh has said.<\/p>\n
Okoh who stated this when the Postmaster General of the Nigerian Postal Service (NPS), Mr. Bisi Adegbuyi led the management team of the Postal Service on a courtesy visit to the Director General on Tuesday, February 16, 2018; however said the final decision on the restructuring would be dependent on the outcome of the work of the Advisers engaged for the transaction.<\/p>\n
He said the envisaged reform in NIPOST is to put the organization on a profitable path and efficient service, stressing that despite the Bureau\u2019s sole mandate for reform, \u201cwe are collaborating with all the critical stakeholders to ensure that the reform in NIPOST is carried out without hitches\u201d.<\/p>\n
The DG allayed fears of job cuts and pledged to work with the management of NIPOST to accommodate their views to transform \u201cNIPOST into a viable entity\u201d.<\/p>\n
He maintained that the Bureau is always conscious of job loss in carrying out its mandate of reform and privatisation, stressing that \u201cwe are not undertakers as is erroneously being construed in certain quarters. In all the reform processes carried out by the Bureau, we are conscious of job losses\u201d.<\/p>\n
The Director General noted that NIPOST has great potentials and that given the right incentives and environment; it would become efficient, profitable and give value for money.<\/p>\n
In his response, the Postmaster General of NIPOST, Mr. Bisi Adegbuyi said that the organisation has braced up for reforms and that already it has opened up to restructuring in readiness for the reform.<\/p>\n
He said NIPOST has been re-engineered to carry out certain services, among them,E-commerce, E-insurance, rural banking and a post Youth Engagement Strategy, aimed at engaging the youth who form the vast population of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
Adegbuyi announced that NIPOST\u2019s Electronic Money Order will debut in Nigeria in February this year and noted that it is in line with the new services it plans to offer to the Nigerian public.<\/p>\n
