{"id":2559,"date":"2021-04-15T08:46:07","date_gmt":"2021-04-15T08:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bpe.gov.ng\/?p=2559"},"modified":"2025-09-08T02:08:56","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T02:08:56","slug":"okoh-inaugurates-joint-technical-committee-for-fmbn-reform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bpe.gov.ng\/staging\/okoh-inaugurates-joint-technical-committee-for-fmbn-reform\/","title":{"rendered":"Okoh Inaugurates Joint Technical Committee For FMBN Reform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Okoh Inaugurates Joint Technical Committee For FMBN Reform<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Government\u2019s efforts to reform the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) for optimum performance received a boost on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 with the inauguration of members of the Joint Technical Committee (JTC) for the Full commercialisation and recapitalisation of the Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Inaugurating the 8- member committee; comprising four members each from the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Mr. Alex A. Okoh said efforts to reposition the bank are to bridge the country\u2019s huge housing deficit estimated at 22Million as at 2019.<\/p>\n<p>He said the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the Committee will include among others:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To conduct a diagnostic review of the Bank\u2019s existing institutional framework, organisational structures and operational modality;<\/li>\n<li>To review\u00a0 and harmonise all existing policies , law and regulations governing mortgage banking in Nigeria\u00a0 in order to\u00a0 identify areas that would facilitate the implementation of full commercialization and recapitalization of the FMBN ;<\/li>\n<li>To harmonise and synchronize all the reform processes of the FMBN with the on-going reform of the Housing sector;<\/li>\n<li>To develop strategies on how to reform FMBN that would enable it to raise funds from the money and\/or capital markets without government guarantees; and<\/li>\n<li>To undertake review of the legal, institutional and operational frameworks of mortgage banking in a few African counties and other emerging economies with a view to learning from their key success factors (KSFs) that can be replicated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He recalled that the Bureau, in pursuance of its mandate for the reform of government-owned enterprises met with the Management team of FMBN on February 18, 2021 where\u00a0 robust discussions on the BPE\u2019s proposed plan for the commercialisation of FMBN in line with its 2021 workplan and as approved by the National Council on Privatisation(NCP) were discussed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInterestingly, the proposal is in tandem with the ongoing efforts of the FMBN\u2019s Management to reposition the Bank,for optimum performance as articulated in the 5-year strategic plan developed by the Bank\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, it was after this that it was resolved that a \u00a0joint Technical Committee be constituted to prepare the bank for commercialisationand re-capitalisation by reviewing the 5- year strategic plan with the view of embedding\u00a0 it within the overall reform plan of the Bureau for FMBN.<\/p>\n<p>Okoh noted that the members were chosen in recognition of their wealth of knowledge and expertise in the reform project and expressed the hope that the outcome of their assignment will pave way for the transformation of FMBN into a viable entity that will assume a pivotal role in the housing sector value chain.<\/p>\n<p>He said the assignment is of a critical national importance and charged the members to approach it with the highest sense of responsibility.<\/p>\n<p>The task is to be concluded within 60 days.<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Mr. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa remarked that the inauguration of the Joint Technical Committee has further consolidated the relationship between the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) and the FMBN.<\/p>\n<p>While pledging support to the Commcercialisation and Recapiatlisatioin process, the MD was optimistic that the new initiative would address the housing deficit in the country.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amina Tukur Othman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Head, Public Communications<\/em><\/p>\n<p>April 15, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Okoh Inaugurates Joint Technical Committee For FMBN Reform\u00a0 The Federal Government\u2019s efforts to reform the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) for optimum performance received a boost on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 with the inauguration of members of the&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":15288,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2559","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v26.5 (Yoast SEO v28.4) -
