BACKGROUND<\/h4>\n

The Federal Government approved the award of the contract for the construction of the National Stadium Complex and Games Village Abuja on 18th<\/sup> July 2000. The construction was to be completed in time to host the 8th<\/sup> All African Games, which took place in October 2003. The National Stadium, Abuja was officially commissioned on 8th<\/sup> August The Federal Government of Nigeria owns 100% equity holding in the Stadium. The Stadium has been slated for full privatisation by concession.<\/strong><\/p>\n

LOCATION<\/h4>\n

The Stadium is located along the airport road close to the Abuja City Gate.\u00a0 It is accessible to both those coming from within the city and those arriving via the domestic and international airports.\u00a0 The stadium is practically adjacent to the City Gate.\u00a0 The neighbourhood is well served with tarred roads of new construction, together with other infrastructure and facilities.<\/p>\n

THE STADIUM FACILITIES<\/h4>\n

The Stadium itself consists of:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • – 60,000 capacity covered main bowl<\/li>\n
  • – Presidential Suite and Viewing Area<\/li>\n
  • – 56 Corporate Suites<\/li>\n
  • – Media Facilities<\/li>\n
  • – Two Score Boards and Flood Lights<\/li>\n
  • – Spectator Conveniences<\/li>\n
  • – Kiosks for Snacks<\/li>\n
  • – A standby Power Supply System<\/li>\n
  • – Helipad<\/li>\n
  • – 3000-capacity Indoor Sports Hall<\/li>\n
  • – 2000-capacity Gymnasium<\/li>\n
  • – 2000-capacity Swimming Pool<\/li>\n
  • – 4000-vehicle capacity public parking lot<\/li>\n
  • – One artificial lake<\/li>\n
  • – 3000-capacity Hockey Stadium<\/li>\n
  • – 400 capacity VIP Car Park<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The project has been divided into two packages, namely Package A and Package B.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    PACKAGE A<\/h4>\n

    Package A comprises the following facilities:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • – 60,000 capacity covered stadium<\/li>\n
    • – Presidential Suites and viewing area<\/li>\n
    • – 56 Corporate Suites<\/li>\n
    • – Media Facilities<\/li>\n
    • – 2 Number Scoreboards and Floodlights<\/li>\n
    • – Spectators\u2019 conveniences<\/li>\n
    • – Kiosks for snacks<\/li>\n
    • – Standby Power Supply System capable of taking all the facilities in the stadium<\/li>\n
    • \u00a0– Helipad<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      PACKAGE B<\/h4>\n

      The package consists of<\/p>\n

        \n
      • – Indoor Sports Hall (3,000 capacity)<\/li>\n
      • – Gymnasium (2,000 capacity)<\/li>\n
      • – Swimming Pool (2,000 capacity)<\/li>\n
      • – Public Parking Lot (4,000 vehicle capacity)<\/li>\n
      • – Maintenance Building, Landmark structure<\/li>\n
      • – Artificial Lakes<\/li>\n
      • – Landscaping 143 hectares<\/li>\n
      • – International Zone for Recreational facilities<\/li>\n
      • – Ancillary buildings: Cafeteria, Church, Mosque, Clinic, Fire Station and Bank.<\/li>\n
      • – Hockey Stadium<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        EQUITY STRUCTURE AND PLANNED MODE OF PRIVATISATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

        The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) through the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) will grant a concession to a sole Concessionaire who will enter into an investment commitment, and essentially operate the National Stadium with the goal of revenue generation from the proceeds of sporting events, concerts, religious activities, corporate sponsorship, corporate advertising and other such promotional activities.<\/p>\n

        The Concessionaire will either act as Facility Manager for the property encompassed in the National Stadium and the Indoor Sports Complex, or employ a firm to do so.<\/p>\n

        The BPE will act as the monitoring party in the arrangement, and the Concessionaire will report to the FGN through the BPE.<\/p>\n

        A minimum tenure of 20 years has been recommended, subject to review every five years.<\/p>\n

        The Concessionaire will be responsible for the maintenance of the Stadium and its external areas.<\/p>\n
