{"id":4728,"date":"2019-08-14T10:05:13","date_gmt":"2019-08-14T10:05:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bpe.gov.ng\/?p=2100"},"modified":"2025-09-08T02:20:38","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T02:20:38","slug":"fg-signs-agreement-with-siemens-for-implementation-of-the-road-map-to-resolve-challenges-in-nigerias-power-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bpe.gov.ng\/staging\/fg-signs-agreement-with-siemens-for-implementation-of-the-road-map-to-resolve-challenges-in-nigerias-power-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"FG Signs Agreement With Siemens For Implementation Of The Road Map To Resolve Challenges In Nigeria&#8217;s Power Sector"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a road map which is geared towards resolving existing challenges in the power sector and expanding capacity for future power needs in Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>With the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) representing the interest of Nigeria and Siemens representing the interest of Germany in this initiative, the roadmap for Nigerian Electrification tailored to the peculiar needs of Nigeria\u2019s power sector has been developed with specific attention to priority projects in the power sector.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the signing of the implementation agreement with Siemens on July 22<sup>, <\/sup>2019 at State House, Abuja, the Director General of BPE, Mr. Alex A. Okoh, disclosed that the Nigeria Electrification Roadmap is structured into 3 phases:<\/p>\n<p><strong>The first phase <\/strong>will focus on implementing projects that would greatly improve power supply in Nigeria within a short period of time. The objectives are: to deliver an additional 2GW to the grid, to significantly reduce ATC&amp;C losses, and to achieve improved grid stability and reliability. <strong>The following phase <\/strong>will target bringing the system\u2019s operational capacity to about 11G, while the <strong>third<\/strong> <strong>phase<\/strong> will involve increasing the system\u2019s capacity to 25GW within the medium to long term planning period, with appropriate upgrades and expansions in generation, transmission and distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Okoh pointed out that to determine the measure of financial intervention and the mechanics for making funds available to implement the roadmap, the immediate step, post signing this agreement, is to commence detailed commercial negotiations with the Distribution Companies and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).<\/p>\n<p>The Bureau\u2019s Director General expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for his steadfast support and commitment to ensuring that efficient, stable, quality, reliable and affordable power is delivered to Nigerians.\u00a0 He also appreciated German Chancellor Angela Merkel for the support of the German Government with regard to the Nigeria Electrification Roadmap.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amina Tukur Othman<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Head, Public Communications<\/em><\/p>\n<p>July 24, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled a road map which is geared towards resolving existing challenges in the power sector and expanding capacity for future power needs in Nigeria.
